Customer Overview

A leading US-based technology company set out to transform remote healthcare and wellness by delivering smart, connected digital solutions. They partnered with a network of hospitals to introduce IoT-enabled devices like wearables and remote monitoring tools. These devices tracked patients’ vital signs outside of traditional clinical settings. By collecting health data remotely, they helped healthcare providers deliver affordable, continuous care to patients recovering post-hospitalization or managing long-term conditions.

Project Overview

Our client wanted to improve patient well-being by building a user-friendly mobile app for continuous care. Their goal was not just to connect patients and healthcare providers, but to make the experience more engaging and human. Inspired by the familiarity of social media, they envisioned an app where patients could interact, get support, and feel motivated throughout their care journey. The idea was to turn ongoing care into a positive, empowering experience, and not just a clinical obligation, by offering interactive features and real-time assistance.

Challenges

Building a cross-platform app with multi-device IoT data integration, accessibility for elderly users, global language support, family engagement, social-style interactivity, and a built-in rewards system.

  • IoT application development for both iOS and Android mobile users with all essential features to support ongoing care and wellness management.
  • The app must collect data from all wearable devices, including both our client’s IoT products and third-party IoT devices like Apple Watch. Integrating with devices built on different IoT platforms was a key technical challenge.
  • Ensure the IoT application is easy to navigate for older users, many of whom manage chronic conditions. Build a live support feature to assist them in real time.
  • Our client aimed to launch the IoT application globally with multilingual support to serve users across different countries.
  • The IoT app must provide patients’ family members with timely health notifications to keep them informed and involved.
  • It must have user-friendly, interactive features to replicate a social media-like experience and encourage regular engagement.
  • Build a rewards program to motivate consistent IoT application usage and promote healthy behavior.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with regulations for the healthcare industry.

Solution

We developed IoT device management software in the form of hybrid mobile apps for iOS and Android, an Admin panel, and a back end, facilitating seamless IoT integrations, real-time communication, multilingual support, social features, a rewards system, and robust security.

  • We developed hybrid mobile apps for iOS and Android using Flutter, an Admin panel using Angular, and a backend using Spring Boot framework and Java, Kotlin, Golang, and Python languages.
  • We built the microservices architecture using Spring Boot to implement a modular app design and manage each feature-specific function separately.
  • We created seamless integrations with IoT devices for healthcare data collection. Using the Terra API, we ensured data collection from all the third-party devices.
  • We developed features for appointment scheduling, video-based online meetings, medication reminders, data management and sharing with healthcare providers, graphical data visualization, and a chat-based interface for communication between patients and healthcare providers.
  • Our team implemented the live support feature by creating a workflow using notifications and access codes. This enabled care coordinators to access the user’s screen and assist them in real time.
  • To facilitate a complete family experience, we enabled support for five accounts under a single login and shared notifications across all accounts.
  • We build multi-lingual support for 20 languages to help our client expand their reach.
  • We built social features for inviting friends and sharing posts with text, images, and videos, and a rewards system that granted points for actions like inviting friends, posting content, completing surveys, etc.
  • We ensured security and compliance through multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, role-based access, and data encryption, aligned with HIPAA standards.

Benefits

The healthcare IoT applications we developed for iOS and Android mobile users provided the following benefits:

  • 24/7 remote care, with 75% of post-discharge patients using the app for ongoing monitoring
  • 6 in 10 became daily active users in first three months, showing strong early engagement
  • 40% of users added family members, who participated in wellness programs
  • Real-time patient data enabled faster decisions and more personalized care plans
